What I Was Thinking When I First Saw Jay Gatsby
Gatsby. I could not believe it was him. After all these
years, I saw him again.
I have to admit, I was a little surprised when it had happened. Nick invited me
over for tea in his quaint, adorable cottage, without Tom. I expected us to talk, get to know each other better. He had beautiful silverware, so shiny and new. I started admiring his home and the beautiful
white roses surrounding it, when Gatsby appeared behind me through the mirror.
We had not met for eight years, next November. I can’t believe he remembered that. At first, all we did was stare at each other for many
minutes, as if we didn’t know what to say.
All I had to do was stare into those gorgeous blue eyes. It was completely silent, until Nick walked
in. All of a sudden, I had my emotions
together. It felt like it had been
someone’s birthday. Gatsby was like a
present, given to me by my dearest cousin.
Eventually, Jay asked us to go over to his house. I had never seen it before. His house was beautiful and huge! How did he live there all by himself? There was a man who had recently moved in,
who played the piano for us. Then, we went upstairs, where he had many
clippings of me. How flattering!
We were in his closet, where he showed us all of his shirts that
were given to him. He flew all of his
shirts around, until it looked as if the closet was raining shirts. I was so overwhelmed I began to weep. I had never seen such beautiful shirts
before.
He was a very pleasant man.
The day I saw him, I realized how much I had missed and loved him.
